The
Ripon Falls,
the Source of the White Nile,
as Speke encountered it in
1862.
He wrote about his first
encounter:
". . . the most interesting sight
I had seen in Africa . . .
the roar of the waters,
the thousands of passenger-fish,
leaping
. . . with all their might."
The
Ripon Falls have
now been submerged beneath
a hydro-electric dam,
and the area is flooded
and presents itself much
less spectecular:
